Congratulations! Today is your day!

Happy 5 months my little darlings! As a birthday treat, today you had your first taste of rice cereal!

Your super cool new feeding ware!

First time in your new high chairs! Ari, you were very hungry!

What. is. that?

Okay, here goes nothing.

Not so sure about this stuff...

Noah, what do you think?

Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh!

Maybe, it's not so bad!

So the first rice cereal experience wasn't all that bad! I gave the boys their bottle first, and when they were near finished we switched over to the cereal. Ari wasn't too sure about the whole experience. He ate only a teaspoon or two and was done. He wouldn't open up his mouth anymore and turned his head away. Noah on the other hand was all about it! He kept on opening his mouth, and probably would have eaten a little more! Not too much spit up!

My sweet boys are 5 months old today! Where has the time gone?? It's amazing how much can change in such a short period of time. They can hold their heads up now, grab toys, rub their eyes when they're tired, smile, giggle, and totally notice each other!

Now mommy has a whole new set of challenges to overcome. I've mastered the tandem bottle feeding, but now we've moved on to adding solids. I'll figure it out...baby steps!

In approximately two more weeks...

Mark and I will be parents!!! We had our final ultrasound yesterday and everything looked great. Ari weighed in at 5.11 lbs and Noah at 5.9 lbs! They're definitely on the right track so hopefully we'll have some meaty little butterballs!

The only downside to our ultrasound was the fact that the little munchkins weren't in the right positions. This means that I will more than likely be having a c-section. I don't know all the details yet, but should know more when Mark and I go to my appointment with Dr. Randell on Tuesday. I'm not terribly upset or nervous about the procedure itself; just worried about recovery and taking care of two newborns at the same time. I know that we'll have help, but I don't want to lose any bonding time with my boys! It also makes me a little sad knowing that I won't be able to hold and cuddle with them right away. What's best for them is most important!! I'm sure that all will be well.

Showered with Love

We had our first baby shower yesterday and it was completely and totally breathtaking! A HUGE thank you to my sister and brother-in-law for all of their hard work and thoughtfulness in putting everything together. Also a huge thank you to everyone for coming! The amount of gifts that we received was truly overwhelming! Mark and I are very lucky to have all of you in our lives.

Long ago

Growing up in the "Bible Belt" was never an easy task. Every morning of Christmas Eve I am taken back to a memory from long ago. When I was about 5ish, I remember getting out of bed after being tucked in. I would sit on this table that stood in front of my bedroom window and watch for Santa. I never saw him, and always woke up disappointed because I didn't get diddly squat!

I only hope that as a new mother I can help my twinkies understand who we are and where we come from, and why we don't celebrate Christmas. Gotta love the South!

Oh, the things you'll discuss in an elevator

Mark and I went on our hospital tour at Northside today. I've been there a million times, but we were able to get something new out of it. I'd say the most important thing we got out of the whole tour was learning which entrance was the correct one to come through when the big day arrives!

On the way out, Mark and I were in the elevator with a man who was about to check out of the hospital with his new family. We saw him with bags and gifts and told him congratulations. He responded with a tired thank you and told us that he just had a boy. He then proceeded to ask us what we were having. When we told him two boys his eyes got really wide and he responded with an exasperated, "Jesus!" I have to say that this is definitely the best reaction that we've gotten so far. This poor man was exhausted with the one that he just had. I think knowing that we were having two secretly made him think that maybe one wasn't that bad! I guess you had to be there. I just keep telling myself that since we don't have any kids at all, we won't know the difference between having twins from a singleton.
